Out-of-Town Holiday-Weekend Trip Update: Day #3

So far: three days, one nap, too many tantrums and time-outs (the two-year-old, naturally) to count. Pretty much all you need to know. Mama has a headache.

OK I'm about to write something which, since you are obviously very intelligent and a psychologist and all, you might find very annoying. If you do, I take it all back and apologize..... have you ever read "Raising your Spirited Child?" Let's just say my son also has a lot of "spirit".

I hope you don't find me too obnoxious, please know I am NOT trying to dispense "advice". I can just totally relate...

Oh no, I'm not annoyed at all. I have not read that book though I know of it. I'm terrible about reading parenting books (this time around). I'm sort of lazy about it (who has time?!) and also I never believe they'll help me or tell me anything useful (I know that's a terrible attitude, but it was borne out of experience with baby #1). Also, our town has a very tiny library and for some reason I seem to never remember or think about the fact that I can request inter-library loan. Maybe I'll look into this though, b/c Lord knows Genevieve is spirited!

I read the book, and it did help me realize that I had one of "them", or maybe two. It just helped me relax and know my kids-on-fire weren't bad or abnormal or weren't suffering from inept parenting. They were just MORE!!

But one parenting book I wish I could hand out to everyone: "Yes, Your Teen is Crazy" but Michael Bradley. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
